This quilt was inspired
by the work of Dylis Fronks incorporating my love of watercolour quilts
and impressionist techniques. The background is constructed with 2"
squares and was designed to hang in my high-ceilinged stairway that
needed a window. The black applique gate was drafted following the
techniques from the book Wrought Iron in Architecture by Gerald K
Geerlings, Dover Press. It was then transferred in three sections to the
black fabric, and cutaway hand applique techniques were used to complete
the project. This garden window has become a welcome sight especially on
the cold days of January.
The quilt won first place for Applique at Quilts on the Rocks 2003. |
